Your trip will begin with a one-hour flight from Anchorage to Nondalton. Transportation will be provided by a small air taxi from Anchorage to Nondalton. The flight is one hour. The flight carries you through Lake Clark pass surrounded by beautiful scenic mountains and numerous glaciers. Have your camera ready!

The first two nights will be spent in the community of Nondalton. The accommodations in Nondalton include a fully-equipped log cabin with running water and electricity. Activities for the 2-day stay will include daily trips to fish camp – travel to fish camp is provided by a 10-minute boat ride; a village tour, boating and hiking for those who want the extra exercise. The activities at fish camp will also keep you plenty busy.
From Nondalton you will travel to Chulitna River. The boat ride from Nondalton is a sight seeing adventure. The remote camp at Chulitna River runs into Lake Clark and is located 15 miles, northeast of Nondalton. The camp is remote, but comfortable with a cabin for rest, a steam bath for refreshing and scenic beauty and heritage for fulfillment. There is no electricity or running water.
Activities to Participate in and Enjoy
• Fish Camp: You will visit my family’s traditional Dena’ina fish camp. The camp is located one mile east of Nondalton and has been in my family of origin for several generations. Our fish camp is not just about fishing. We celebrate the return of the salmon and reconnecting with family and friends each summer. You will see and participate with catching and processing of salmon.
• Village Tour: Nondalton is a Dena’ina Athabascan Indian village with a fishing and subsistence lifestyle. Nondalton is primarily accessible by air and water, the population is 217. The tour consists of walking through the community and learning about the history, the culture, changes and questions you might have.
• Chulitna Camp: The 15-mile boat ride from Nondalton is a sight seeing adventure. The remaining 2 days includes historic and cultural presentations, canoeing, hiking, and other activities of interest.
• Arts and Crafts: Other traditional activities Tava View Adventures will offer includes learning how to bead (i.e. hair barrettes, coin purses, and dream catchers), and how to make birch bark baskets.
• Dena’ina Athabascan Culture: Dena’ina culture is part of your entire trip. You will learn about the history of the Dena’ina people in the area, medicinal plant, traditional foods, and values along with any questions or interest you might have.
• Other interests and opportunities:
There are plenty of photography opportunities. This includes scenic views from the great mountains surrounding Lake Clark to the flat grasslands and diverse rolling hills on the Chulitna River. There are also plenty of nature trails for hiking. If you are interested in fishing there are plenty of opportunities and a diverse fish resource. Evening campfires and just good old relaxation. |
